Ada lima tenses utama dalam bahasa Ingris. Kelima tenses tersebut antara lain ; Present Continuous Tense, Present Future Tense, Simple Present Tense, Simple Past Tense dan Present Perfect Tense. Tenses-tenses ini pasti dipakai oleh pembicara asli setiap mereka bercakap-cakap dengan teman bicara. Selain kelima tenses tersebut, kita juga akan belajar tiga tenses lain yaitu : Past Continuous Tense, Present Future Perfect Tense and Past Perfect Tense. 
1. Present Continuous Tense    :  Sedang berlangsung
Now (sekarang), at the moment (pada saat ini), at the present (pada saat sekarang), Look ! (lihat), Listen ! (dengar)
Subject + is/am/are + verb-ing + ….               (+).
Subject + is/am/are + not + verb-ing + ….      (-).
Is/Am/Are + subject + verb-ing + ….        (?)

2. Present Future Tense    : Akan berlangsung
Tomorrow (besok), soon (segera), tonight (nanti malam), next …. (…. Yang akan datang)

3. Simple Present Tense    : Berlangsung (kebiasaa)
